After an enthralling performance with the legendary Blixa Bargeld, Italian musician, composer and sound designer Teho Teardo returns to Slovenian stages. This time he will present his latest project in the company of violin, viola and 40 local guitarists at the Club of Cankarjev dom. “Le Retour à la raison. Musique pour trois films de Man Ray : Le retour, Emak bakia, Etoile de mer.”

Working with silent films can be easy because the director is deceased.

But Man Ray is different. He appeared in my dreams, holding his scary nail iron.

He said, “Don’t make a soundtrack, I hate them!” So I didn’t.

So when I see his films, I play live, I feel like I’ve come to a secret meeting.

In his last dream, he said, “Forty”. So I found forty guitarists playing a single chord, C# minor.

Teho Teardo is a musician, composer and sound designer interested in developing possible connections between electronic and acoustic sounds.

Teho started playing clarinet at the age of eight, but a few years later punk put an end to that and a new, more interesting era of guitar playing began. Since then he has worked with artists such as Blixa Bargeld (Einstürzende Neubauten), Girls Against Boys, Lydia Lunch, Cop Shoot Cop, Alexander Balanescu, Wire, Mick Harris, Mario Brunello, Jim Thirlwell, Erik Friedlander and many others.

Teho is also one of Italy’s most active film composers and has scored numerous soundtracks for films by Paolo Sorrentino, Daniele Vicari, Andrea Molaioli and Gabriele Salvatore.

He has received many important awards and critical acclaim for his sound recordings.

Music compilation album, film. Music includes film music from Paolo Sorrentino’s Il Divo, an international hit, winner of the Cannes Jury Prize, the most prestigious Italian film prize, the David di Donatello Award, as well as the Ennio Morricone Award at the Italian Film Festival. Morricone himself presented the award to Teo, saying of his music: “I can tell you from experience that those who search sooner or later find, and that in the period between the search and the find there are important moments, moments just like the ones we hear on this wonderful album.”

Teho composed the music for Voyage au Bout de la Nuit, a highly successful theatre performance inspired by Céline’s masterpiece and starring the famous actor Elio Germano. His other works for the theatre include Ingiuria for Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio, in collaboration with the Balanescu Quartet and Blixa Bargeld.

With cellist Mario Brunello, he has reworked J.S. Bach’s The Art of Fugue, combining the sounds of a string quartet with electronic sounds, bringing tradition together with contemporary sounds.

He recently released an album with Blixa Bargeld entitled Still Smiling, followed by Spring, and they performed a series of concerts all over Europe.

Teho also wrote the music for the new Ende Walsh play, Ballyturk, which was released as a CD and vinyl.
